The Journal

Welcome to the Navygrey journal where we explore the world of Navygrey - from our makers and materials to the moments and ideas that shape what we create.

Family Jumpers, Volume 1

To the ones who wore it first.

Dad wore V necks. Always wool. Usually navy. He didn’t think about clothes - he just wore what felt right.

The argyle golfing one pictured here was probably his jazziest. But really, it was the navy he lived in.

British Jersey: A memory, reworked.

Around 1993, there was a navy jersey.
Rolled into the back of the family Volvo. Worn without thinking. Soft, weighty, always ready.

It's odd, the small things that stay with you - not the big events, but the everyday pieces quietly carrying memory.

A chance conversation last year with Roy - a master jersey maker in Loughborough - brought that memory back.

Old cotton swatches. Knitted fabric from a rare 14-gauge machine you hardly see these days.

From there, Navygrey's British Jersey was born:
- Two striped tees, knitted with archive and newly-spun cotton.
- Two rugby jerseys - substantial, breathable, with a proper drill collar and ease across the arm and chest.
- Knitted, cut, and sewn in the British Isles.

Good things, made properly, still start close to home. Pieces made to feel instantly familiar - and to only get better with time.

We already have more ideas on the knitting machine. More from the archive, reworked. New pieces. Old roots.
