The longline silhouette, the chunky 5 gauge Lamb's Wool knit, the un-dyed natural white ecru shade. The HEIRLOOM CARDIGAN reminds us of past times, of generations before us, of home.
When we set about creating this style, we took those elements loved in our first cardigan - the v-neck shape, the pockets, the simplicity and blended them to create this luxurious yet durable ribbed cardigan.
Designed with a set in sleeve, so it sits just perfectly on the shoulder with the right amount of ease, for a look and feel that's both relaxed and polished at the same time.
This is about timelessness and quality, a wearable style that's chic, contemporary and enduring. Finished with deep ribbed pockets stitched by hand and a V-neck front, secured with unique buttons made from recycled horn.
For each HEIRLOOM CARDIGAN sold, we pledge to plant a tree with The World Land Trust, whose patron is Sir David Attenborough.
Trees are vital to our planet. In 2019, global deforestation reached 64 million acres a year. Through planting trees, the World Land Trust is helping to restore these lost forests, repairing damaged ecosystems and mitigating climate changes.
By funding the nurturing and planting of a tree, we can play a small role in protecting our environment for the next generation - the greatest heirloom we can pass on.
The HEIRLOOM CARDIGAN is made from 100% Superfine Lamb's Wool that is sourced from a special breed of sheep in South Africa.
With a fibre diameter of c. 18.5 microns, it is one of the world's finest and softest Lambs Wools. (Most average 21-24 microns). We have knitted this style into a luxurious 5 gauge cardigan.
The wool arrives in Scotland by boat where it is spun and dyed on the banks of Loch Leven in Kinross by Todd & Duncan, one of the finest Scottish Mills which has been spinning yarn for 150+ years.
85% of the dyes used by Todd & Duncan are organic and the water used for washing and dyeing the wool is cleaned and purified before being returned to Loch Leven to be used again. It is a pioneering and cyclical process that helps to protect the environment in and around the loch.
The yarn is then sent to our small female-led factory in Portugal where our team of dedicated women knit and hand-finish each cardigan. Due to the fully-fashioned knitting technique we employ and as we produce in small batches, there is very little yarn wastage.
The cardigan is finished with organic cotton care labels and sealed in an organic cotton bag.
